Health

Jan 2012
I’m participating in the MAP 2012 challenge this year. (I’m also doing My Unstoppable Year but I’ll set up a separate part of my blog for that!)

Since I started with Dax’s diet and programs (and working with my doctor and a dietitian locally), I’ve lost about 55 pounds and about 24 inches. Not only that, I’ve seriously improved my health and overall fitness. I’m active again and loving life!

MAP Day 6

———————–

Here we go again! I have been having a lot of success with the new diet and I’m going to do Dax’s summer challenge again. I know the diet won’t be an issue and I have permission to do some exercises. The exercises on the ED challenge are much less than on REBOOT, so I should be good.

My new diet eliminates sugar, dairy (from all animals), soy, gluten, peanuts, and natural flavor. Nope, not much left after all of that is taken away! But after my strange skyrocketing weight gain to 210 lbs this past March, I’ve come down to 178.4 (as of June 23rd). I’ll post a record like I did last year….

June 23: 178.4 lbs

—————————————
So this is going to be a record of what’s going on here. I suspect I know how things got this way but I’m still sketchy on how to fix it up. Some of the stuff here will probably get icky for those of you who are squeamish – I’ll try to put a disclaimer on those posts. But the issue seems to be with my intestines – both large and small – and a lot of people think that’s icky.

Starting right away is a change in my diet. Gone is the caffeine, the sugar, the dairy, and the raw whole grains. Fiber is okay if your insides are healthy – it causes great embarrassment when they’re not. And mine aren’t. I suspected issues quite a while ago (two years) but it’s taken a very long time to rule out several things and get the right tests done. Now that’s getting fixed it’s time to fix the rest of the body.
You wouldn’t know by looking at me that I’m actually in decent shape – but it always amazes me when people are surprised that I’m carrying around about 65 excess pounds. Are they just trying to be kind?

Starting on June 7 is a big change in my exercise routine. I signed up for Dax Moy’s 30 day M.A.P fatloss challenge (he’s a personal trainer in London but we’ve pestered him enough to try running his challenge over the ‘net for those of us not in his city!). I’m going to keep a day by day, blow-by-blow account of the whole thing – you can join it if you want at his site.

To be fair, he’s gonna seem pushy, so if you’re waffling about it, you might not want to sign up. I have a feeling it’s going to be a transformative 30 days! I love how his diet almost exactly matches the doctor recommended elimination diet – so much easier that way!

Before pictures are a part of the challenge. As are measurements. You don’t have to click on the links – and really, you probably shouldn’t if you haven’t seen me in a while. I’m in the process of getting my old self back. Check back in 30 days and see how this goes….

Daily progress will be in a series of pages. Still trying to figure out how WordPress works… I sure thought I could just put a post on this page!
